Administrative Officer Grade
Training
While officers acquire various types of exposure and experience on the job, they also receive well-structured training both locally and overseas throughout their career in the Administrative Service :
- induction training -- new recruits at Administrative Officer rank will receive various training in law, media skills, language and personal development in their first two years of service;
- post-probation training -- on completion of probation, officers who joined the Service at Administrative Officer rank will be sent to renowned universities overseas for training;
- secondment scheme -- to enrich the experience of Administrative Officers and to promote understanding between the Government and other organisations, a secondment scheme has been set up. Under this scheme, an officer at Senior Administrative Officer rank will be seconded to work in an outside organisation;
- junior directorate training programme -- further training in management and leadership skills to equip Senior Administrative Officers for directorate responsibilities;
- National Studies programmes and Mainland familiarization visits -- to enhance Grade Members' understanding of the latest developments in the Mainland, they are encouraged to participate in the National Studies programmes and familiarization visits to the Mainland which the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government jointly organises with Mainland institutions or organisations;
- executive development programmes -- deserving directorate officers will be offered full sponsorship to attend degree programmes or short-term executive development programmes run by distinguished overseas institutions; and
- sponsorship for part-time studies -- in line with the philosophy of continuous learning, officers are offered sponsorship to pursue part-time studies in relevant fields and foreign language.
