Acceptance of 2007 Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination Results for Civil Service Appointment Purpose
From August 8, 2007, the date on which the 2007 Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) results are to be released, Level 3 and 2 in English and Chinese Languages in the 2007 HKCEE will be accepted administratively as comparable to Grade C and E respectively in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language attained in previous HKCEEs for civil service appointment purpose.
With the implementation of the new examinations for HKCEE English and Chinese Languages with effect from 2007, standards-referenced reporting is adopted for the two language subjects: levels (5* to 1) instead of grades (A to F) will be used in reporting candidates’ performances. The English Language (Syllabus A) and English Language (Syllabus B) examinations in previous HKCEEs have been replaced by a single English Language examination. For details about the “standards-referenced Reporting” for the 2007 HKCEE, please refer to the website of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority at www.hkeaa.edu.hk.
A spokesman for the Civil Service Bureau said, “most civil service non-graduate grades set Grade E in English Language (Syllabus B) and/or Chinese Language in previous HKCEEs as the entry requirements for appointment while some civil service grades set a higher standard at Grade C in these language subjects, having regard to the job requirements. We have consulted the relevant authorities including the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority in deciding to accept administratively Level 3 and 2 in English and Chinese Languages in the 2007 HKCEE as comparable to Grade C and E respectively in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language in previous HKCEEs for civil service appointment purpose”.
Persons who wish to apply for civil service vacancies should apply to the recruiting grades/departments direct. Information on government vacancies is available at the Civil Service Bureau homepage at www.csb.gov.hk.
