Recruitment of Administrative Officers, Executive Officers II, Assistant Labour Officers II and Assistant Trade Officers II in 2008/09 starts today
The government starts a recruitment exercise today (September 6) to select around 30, 150, 35 and five candidates for appointment on civil service terms as Administrative Officer (AO), Executive Officer II (EOII), Assistant Labour Officer II (ALOII) and Assistant Trade Officer II (ATOII) respectively in 2008-09.
The application period runs from today to September 29. Recruitment advertisements are placed in the South China Morning Post, Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily today and will be run on September 13 and 20. The advertisement can also be found on the Civil Service Bureau's (CSB's) homepage (at www.csb.gov.hk) from today.
For the recruitment of AOs, the advertisement is also placed in the overseas editions of Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily today and again on September 20.
The advertisements are also accessible at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government portal, GovHK, on the Internet (at www.gov.hk).
The recruitment is open to all permanent residents of the HKSAR (for the AO post, applicants should have at least seven years of residence in Hong Kong) who possess the required degree from a university in Hong Kong (or equivalent qualifications) or those who are undergraduates taking their final degree examinations in summer 2009. Applicants may refer to the advertisements for details of the qualification requirements.
All applicants would need to obtain "Level 2" results in the two language papers (i.e. Use of Chinese and Use of English), or equivalent results, and a "Pass" result in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) before they are qualified for any of the above four posts.
Persons who do not possess the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, but have applied for the coming "Common Recruitment Examination and Basic Law Test" to be held on October 4 in Hong Kong or on November 29 in Beijing and six overseas cities - London, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney - may also apply. Their applications will be processed subject to their obtaining the requisite CRE results in the examination.
Applicants are also advised to refer to the advertisements for details regarding the requisite CRE results.
Qualified applicants possessing the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, will be invited to attend the Joint Administrative Officer/Executive Officer/Labour Officer/Trade Officer Recruitment Examination (JRE) on November 29. Candidates residing or studying outside Hong Kong may take the JRE on the same date in Beijing or any one of the six overseas cities mentioned above.
For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of the BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Results of the BL test for degree/professional grades will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of a candidate but will not affect his/her eligibility for applying for civil service jobs. As a general principle, the main consideration for suitability for appointment remains a candidate's qualification, experience and calibre.
Application forms (CSB 606 and CSB 606A) (Rev. 9/2008) are available at the Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department, any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department, and the G/F Reception, Trade and Industry Department Tower, 700 Nathan Road, Kowloon, or they can be downloaded from CSB's homepage (at www.csb.gov.hk).
Applicants can make on-line applications directly through CSB's website. Each applicant should only submit one application, either by hand, by post or through on-line application. Duplicate applications will result in delay in processing and applicants may not get sufficient notice for being invited to attend the examination(s).
