The Board of Directors of the Surviving Spouses' and Children's Pensions Scheme
Functions
To carry out the provisions of the Surviving Spouses' and Children's Pensions Ordinance for the granting of pensions to surviving spouses and children of deceased public officers who contributed to the Surviving Spouses' and Children's Pensions Scheme.
Pensions to a surviving spouse will be paid until death or remarriage. Pensions to a child until age 18 in the case of a male or a married female child, or age 21 for an unmarried female child, in respect of contributors who joined the Scheme before 1 February 1993; or until age 18, irrespective of sex and marital status, in respect of contributors who joined the Scheme on or after 1 February 1993. However, pensions may be extended to age 23, if the child has been continuously receiving full-time education.

Conduct of Business
The Director of Accounting Services is empowered by the law to pay surviving spouses' and children's pension on behalf of the Directors on the death of contributors in routine cases. Other cases are considered by Board Members through circulation of papers. Meetings are convened whenever the need arises.
